Spaxton, Somerset

We helped Aster Group and Spaxton Community Land Trust secure permission for 11 new affordable homes in a village where no new affordable housing had been delivered for 50 years.

The community-led scheme proposed 100% social rent homes for people with a local connection to Spaxton. With the application facing an officer recommendation for refusal, we developed a strategy that recognised the wider political and community context, working constructively with the project team and case officer while building support among local residents, ward members and the local MP.

Following representations at Planning Committee, including our case for the development, members voted unanimously to approve the scheme, overturning the officer recommendation and enabling much-needed locally affordable homes to move forward.
